Study Hall College, Kanpur Road organizes blood donation drive

Lucknow desk ( R L Pandey) Aiming to create awareness about importance of donating blood and its benefits, Study Hall College organized a blood donation drive on Wednesday (20th November, 2024) in association with Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI). The drive, co-powered by HDFC Bank, was conducted in the college campus where students, faculties & staff came together in large numbers to contribute for the nobel cause.

The camp, which started at 10 am and lasted upto 3 pm, aimed to help bridge the blood shortage gaps and make a significant difference. This initiative was a part of the Parivartan Campaign of the HDFC Bank which aims to become a step towards sustainable progress.

The doners were warmly welcomed by Dr. Himanshu Singh, Director of Study Hall College, who greeted them with motivating words. The doners, aged between 18 to 60 and weighing minimum 50 kgs, were given vital checkups to monitor blood pressure and hemoglobin levels before starting the session. The entire session takes not more than an hour, and the donation itself takes nearly 10-15 minutes.

Medical staff present at the camp briefed doners that donating blood every three months helps the body produce new red blood cells, improving blood circulation and oxygen delivery.
“With regular blood donation, people can avoid hazardous health risks like hemochromatosis, heart diseases and some cancers, Dr. Amit Singh from SGPGI informed the students participating in the drive.

“Donating blood gives sense of fulfilment which in turn gives mental satisfaction which people derive from helping others,” Dr. Geetanjali said.
After the session, doners were given goodies including a tiffin, mug and two certificates as a token of appreciation for their act.

Speaking at the occasion, Shivam Singh, AVP, HDFC Bank informed that only 1% Indians donate blood resulting to the loss of 12,000 lives each day due to severe blood shortage. This small act of kindness helps patients in emergencies, he added.
