International DNA Day commemorates the successful completion of the Human Genome Project
International DNA Day commemorates the successful completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003 and the discovery of DNA's double helix in 1953. The aim of the celebration of the International DNA Day-2024 at CSTUP is to follow up the commemoration of the 71th anniversary of the publication of DNA double-helix structure in Nature from April 25, 1953 by Dr. James Watson and Dr. Francis Crick and, which is held during April 25, 2024.
The aim of celebrating the International DNA day on April 25th, to make students, teachers and the public aware about how advances in genetics and genomics have changed people's lives and what the future holds.
In the program students from various schools & colleges participated along with their teachers.
To make the children aware lecture of senior scientists of the city was organized. The Special Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, UP and Secretary, Council of Science & Technology, UP, Sri Shiv Prasad motivated the students to come forward and adopt science as there are tremendous scope. He further said the objective of organizing such program is to make them aware of the latest trends and developments in the area of genomics.
On this occasion Prof. Farzana Mahdi, Head, Personalised Medicine, Era University, Lucknow delivered her keynote address and explained the audience about the importance of DNA and how it can be helpful in designing the personalised medicines for any individual. Dr. Samir Sawant, CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow discussed the discovery and structure of DNA. Dr. Huma Mustafa, Joint Director, CSTUP welcomed the guest and conducted the program. Dr. DK Srivastava, Director, CSTUP told about the immense opportunities in the area of Biotechnology and Nanotechnology. Ms. Pooja Yadav, joint Director, CSTUP delivered the vote of thanks.
