Mohit Suri on Saiyaara: I Almost Shelved the Film Due to Lack of Promising New Talent
Mohit Suri’s Honest Confession
Director Mohit Suri recently revealed that he had nearly abandoned the idea of making Saiyaara with newcomers.“I had given up on the idea of making Saiyaara with debutants because I couldn’t find fresh talent with the acting depth I was looking for,” Suri admitted.
It wasn’t until he met Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda—two young actors being mentored by YRF—that he reconsidered. Their auditions and dedication reignited his belief in the project.
Ahaan & Aneet: The Fresh Faces with Depth
Suri emphasizes that making a love story with new actors is risky unless they can convincingly convey complex emotional layers.“Nobody expects debutants to have the finesse of a Ranbir Kapoor or Alia Bhatt from the start. But they need to have a screen presence and emotional honesty,” he added.
Initially, Suri had shifted focus toward casting commercially viable actors. However, after encountering Ahaan and Aneet’s auditions, he spent time with them personally to gauge their emotional and intellectual maturity.“Their dedication and ability to fully surrender to a director’s vision amazed me. It’s rare these days to find such raw and passionate talent,” said Suri.

A Collaboration That Was Meant to Be
YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani, who is also producing the film, spoke about the studio’s legacy of telling heartfelt love stories:“At YRF, we’ve always believed in creating stories that stay with people for years. Collaborating with Mohit, who shares that passion for romance, felt natural.”
He added that Saiyaara combines YRF’s classic storytelling with the emotional intensity that defines Mohit Suri’s cinema.“It’s a timeless love story rooted in today’s youth — their emotions, struggles, and honesty in relationships.”
