TwilightTalks is a unique platform that gives the unsung Sheroes a opportunity to share their story of resilience in facing the challenges with courage and coming out stronger and fearless.
The first speaker Paromita Chattopadhyay, an educator, trainer, poetess and social volunteer shares her touching and inspiring story of overcoming a near fatal medical condition to bounce back to Life with more energy, zest and an inexplicable desire to make a difference and make the world a better place. She believes that Prayers can work Miracles and the only way to face a challenge is to take it head on. Her story of conquering a serious health emergency and emerging out fortified is truly an inspiration.
It all started with in the month of August some moons back, when a sudden tearing pain gripped Paromita while she was in a meeting with the leadership team at work. She wanted to brush it aside as migraine attack but it was not to be and she collapsed much to the utter disbelief of her colleagues. Sensing danger her colleagues admitted her to the nearest hospital and informed her husband. She was awakened by the deafening sound of the MRI machine and the reports diagnosed the unthinkable. The doctors informed that she had suffered a ‘Brain Haemorrhage’.
Her initial reaction was denial and disbelief as she had always led a fairly healthy life. Neither did she suffer from any lifestyle diseases like hypertension or diabetes nor did she have a fall or accident. Paromita realized that she had brought this onto herself, she had taken on the mantle of a Superwoman and loaded herself with unreasonable expectations both at work and at home. She was battling for life with a ticking time bomb in her brain and the only resolution was to have a stent implanted to plug the haemorrhage caused by the aneurysm. The fact shared by the doctor that most haemorrhage patients do not even make it to a medical facility filled her with gratitude toward the Almighty and gave her the strength to fight the unbearable pain she was experiencing with every spasm. The prayers and good wishes poured in from her family, friends, colleagues, team members, students and even acquaintances. These prayers worked the Miracle and after a long and difficult 5 hours surgery, the stent was successfully implanted much to everyone’s delight. Despite this, the pain persisted but Paromita was determined to face it with a smile in the next 72 hours which the doctor alerted would be critical for the stent to be accepted by the brain and function normally.
She has compromised on her physical and mental well-being without realizing the serious and almost fatal implications of the cumulative stress. She realized that it was imperative to give herself some time out and free herself from the shackle of a Superwoman. Her willpower and grit helped her sail through the tough times and emerge victorious. Like they say tough times don’t last, tough people, do.
Paromita’s story is a true inspiration and #ligtingupthe dusk for many who are tempted to give up on life in times of adversity. Remember the darkest hour of the night is just before dawn and there is always hope at the end of the tunnels. Seek your Twilight.
