 Lucknow: A week-long workshop and awareness Program from 18th to 22nd March, 2024 was organised by the Department of Environmental Sciences, Integral University, Lucknow in collaboration with UP Jal Nigam (Urban) Lucknow and CII- Young Indians (Yi)- Climate Action Vertical, on the topic "Urban Water Management and Nature Conservation".

The Inaugration session started with floral welcome of the esteemed guests Prof Javed Musarrat, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Integral Univeraity, Lucknow, Prof Aquil Ahmad, Advisor to Chancellor, Integral University, Lucknow, Mr Umesh Kumar Purbey, Chief Executive Officer, HAWKSVALE, UK, Noida (Ex corporate Head and VP- HSE of Reliance Power and L&T), Er Shamim Akhtar Supritendant Engineer UP Jal Nigam Lucknow, Mr Kunal Batra, Head, Climate action Vertical, CII- Young Indians, Lucknow, Mr Abhinav Srivastava, Deputy Commissioner, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvination, Ministry of Jal Shakti, New Delhi.

The participants were welcomed by Prof. Dr Monowar Alam Khalid, Dean, Students' Welfare, Integral University, Lucknow and a brief introduction of the eminent speakers was given by Dr Ambrina Sardar Khan, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Environmental Science, Integral University, Lucknow. 


During the session, Mr. Umesh. K. Purbey shared his insights on the resons behind degradation of water and water reaources. He spoke about deforestation and rise in population that has resulted in the excessive use of natural reaources. Er. Shamim Akhtar highlighted the importance of water and how a slight fluctuation in water parameter levels can affect the water quality.  And Prof.

Javed Musarrat focused upon the importance of Urban water challenges and how it affects the climate. He also discussed about Smart Water Merering, Rainwater Harvesting and Circular Water Economy. Prof. Aquil Ahmad astressed upon the importance of water and the necessity of it's conservation. While Mr. Kunal Batra spoke about the aim of Climate action Vertical and how it aims for Greenovation to create meaningful and impactful solutions towards environment, and Mr. Abhinav Srivastava discussed about the lack of information and awarenness amongst the masses towards water management.


The session thoroughly highlighted issues that contribute to water degeneration and scarcity, including deforestation, rapid urbanisation, decreased groundwater levels, excessive use of fossil fuels, disturbed natural systems, and so on.

In the end, RJ Prateek of Radiomirchi interacted with the audience where he talked about the importance of water and also focussed on his campaign Go for Gomti. A vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Ambrina Sardar Khan to conclude the Inaugral session of this workshop.
