‘The Idea of Value: Disability and Social Role Valorization’
Uttar Pradesh Desk ,lucknow।( Ramu Panday ) The Department of English and Modern European Languages, University of Lucknow in collaboration with Keystone Institute, India and PYSSUM , organized a two days international conference, titled “ The Idea of Value: Disability and Social Role Valorization(SRV)” under the patronage of the Vice chancellor, Prof Alok Kumar Rai.

 The Head Department of English and Modern European Languages Prof. Maitraye Priyadarshini welcomed the eminent guests  Elizabeth Neuville ( (Executive Director Keystone Institute, India ), Geeta Mondal (from Keystone India), Anju Mishra and Dr Naval Chandra Pant (from PYSSUM) and Prof. Gaurhari Behra (plenary speaker from University of Gorakhpur).  Prof. Ranu Uniyal, the organizing secretary of the conference introduced Ms Elizabeth Neuville, the keynote speaker. Also, an MoU was renewed between University of Lucknow and Keystone for the development of disability studies in curriculum. 

The keynote address covered "Invisible apartheid " and Social Role valorization idea and concepts.  Further, the session was followed by the launch of a few books entitled “Understanding Disability” edited by Prof Ranu Uniyal and Prof Fatima Rizvi, “The Female Imagination in 21st Century” edited by Dr. RB Sharma and Dr. Stuti Khare, “An Unplanned Journey” by Dr. Naval Pant and “Jhalak”, a magazine by Keystone Institute India including the launch of the Department’s magazine “Rhetorica”. The plenary speakers elaborated on various subjects pertaining to disability and inclusion. After the plenary sessions, many scholars and academicians presented their research papers under various themes entitled ‘Cultural, Media and Disability’, ‘Handling Disability’, ‘Redefining disability’, ‘Disability and Cinema’, ‘Disability, Society and Literature’.
