5.10 Lakh Learners Appear for Foundational Literacy Examination Across Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh expands its literacy drive under the ULLAS-Nav Bharat Literacy Programme, with examinations conducted across all 75 districts, including prisons and juvenile homes
Lucknow, September : In a major step towards expanding literacy opportunities across Uttar Pradesh, the foundational literacy examination under the ULLAS-Nav Bharat Literacy Programme was conducted simultaneously across all 75 districts of the state on Sunday. Around 5.10 lakh learners participated in the examination.
The initiative aims to provide basic literacy and numeracy skills to non-literate persons aged 15 years and above, helping them move beyond basic education towards greater self-reliance and participation in everyday life.
Examination Conducted Across 75 Districts
The examination assessed learners on essential skills such as reading, writing and basic numeracy. Designated examination centres were established across the state, with necessary arrangements made to ensure the smooth conduct of the assessment.
The participation of nearly 5.10 lakh learners reflects the extensive reach of the adult literacy campaign and the efforts being made to bring foundational education to people from different social backgrounds.
Literacy Drive Reaches Prisons and Juvenile Homes
A significant feature of the examination was that the literacy initiative extended beyond council schools. Examination centres were also established in prisons and juvenile homes, providing learners in these institutions an opportunity to acquire and demonstrate foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
The programme seeks to connect basic reading, writing and mathematical abilities with practical life skills, thereby supporting learners in becoming more confident and self-reliant.
Government of India Team Monitors Examination
A team from the Government of India visited Chandauli and Jaunpur districts to monitor the examination. The team inspected designated centres and reviewed the arrangements as well as the conduct of the assessment.
At the state level, officials from the Directorate of Education, Basic/Literacy and the State Literacy Mission Authority, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, also visited various districts to assess the arrangements.
Shri Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi, Director of Education, Basic/Literacy, inspected examination centres in Lucknow. Smt. Neelam, Deputy Director, Literacy, reviewed centres in Pratapgarh, while Smt. Pratima Mishra, Assistant Director, Literacy, inspected examination centres in Sonbhadra.
The state-wide examination marks an important stage in the implementation of the ULLAS-Nav Bharat Literacy Programme and reflects the ongoing efforts to expand foundational literacy among adults across Uttar Pradesh.
