Prof CM Singh, the Director of the Institute inaugurated the workshop and reiterated his commitment to augment transplantation activities both in the institute and in the state, and the pivotal role of deceased donor transplants in this context.

The speakers included Prof Abhijit Chandra, Prof Himanshu Reddy and Prof Praveen Sharma from KGMU, Prof Narayan Prasad, Prof Afzal Azim and Prof Rajesh HarshVardhan from SGPGI, and Dr Amol Bhawane from AIIMS Nagpur.

A committee for brain stem death certification has recently been formed and approved in the institute, which is the pivotal step in starting deceased donor transplantation in the institute. The faculties from Neurosurgery, Neurology, Anesthesiology and Medicine departments of Dr RMLIMS involved in brain stem death certification actively participated in the workshop.

The head of the department of Nephrology, Prof Abhilash Chandra reiterated that increased sensitivity of ICU teams and brain stem death certification committee members would give the transplant program the necessary kickstart.

The organizing secretary of the program Dr Namrata Rao informed that more follow-up activities involving ICU nurses, residents and public awareness programs were being planned in the coming months.
The state of uttar pradesh is currently contributing very few deceased donors as to the national total of more tha 1000 a year. This workshop aimed to address infrastructural challanges, enhancing public awareness, and implementing robust policies crucial towards bridging the gap between organ demand and availability।
