Uttar Pradesh desk Lucknow(R L Pandey).September 6, 2024- In commemoration of ‘September as Pain Awareness Month’,Pain Medicine Unit ,Dept. Of Anaesthesiology, Dr RMLIMS Lucknow organised a CME event focused on ‘Pain Medicine and Minimally Invasive Pain and Spine Interventions (MIPSIs) for Chronic Pain Syndromes.


This educational program, scheduled for September 6th, 2024 provided healthcare professionals with the latest advancements and best practices in managing chronic pain through cutting-edge knowledge and techniques to enhance their pain management practices, particularly during a time when awareness and understanding of chronic pain are paramount.


Patron and chief guest of CME Prof C.M. Singh, Director Dr RMLIMS Lucknow said;1 in 5 individual worldwide continue to suffer from chronic pain. He also informed that ‘India is going to have largest elderly population by 2040 and more dedicated pain physicians will be required to serve their chronic pain problems, so, Dr RMLIMS is also imparting quality education in Pain Medicine through PDCC Courses; more advance courses are being added to serve the society.Prof. Singh also said that Dr RMLIMS Lucknow has always been on forefront of providing world-class care to all its patients and newer modalities of Pain Medicine are being added. "Pain Awareness Month is a crucial time for healthcare providers to reflect on the impact of chronic pain and to seek out the latest knowledge and skills to better serve their patients," saidProf .P.K. Das, HOD, Dept. of Anaesthesiology.


Brig. T Prabhakar VSM, Ex-Vice Chancellor, Saifai University; Prof Deepak Malviaya, Principal & Dean, Hind Medical College, Prof. Anil Agarwal, HOD, Apollo Hospitals Lucknow, Prof. (Col.) R K Tripathi, Era Medical College were special invitees for the CME.DrAnuragAgarwal,Pain Physician , Pain Medicine Unit , Dept. of Anesthesia ,Dr RMLIMS Lkodiscussed the burden of chronic pain on society and  innovative approaches, including minimally invasive pain and spine interventions to implement these advanced interventions in their practices, ultimately improving patient outcomes and quality of life.DrAgarwalthanked the Dr RMLIMS administration for provision of most advanced equipment at ‘Pain Medicine MIPSI Lab’ for patient service.


DrShivaniRastogi , Pain physician , Pain Medicine Unit , Dept. of Anesthesia ,Dr RMLIMS Lko, discussed about Head & Neck and Facial pain syndrome & MIPSI. She informed that more women suffer from chronic pain then men. Pain Mediicine Unit is treating patients form all over the country, especially for Trigeminal Neuralgia.

DrDevendra Singh, HOD Pain Medicine, Max Hospitals, Lucknow told about New modalities like Radiofrequency, Spine Endoscopy and Neuro-modulation in Pain Medicine.
DrChetnaShamshery, Pain physician, SGPGIMS , Lucknow discussed about Neuropathic pain syndrome and informed when patients of nerve pain do not respond to medicine, MIPSIs may play a role.Dr Nikita Agarwal, Pain physician, Apollo hospital,Lucknow , told about role of pain medicine in cancer pain. Dr Nikita said that more than 70% patients suffer from severe pain in advanced stages but it can be managed very well. Patients should get an early referral to a Pain Physician to improve Quality of Life.


At the end,there was an interactive “Panel Discussion’ between Senior Doctors from different specialties to discuss the best management of various chronic pain syndromes like trigeminal neuralgia, low back pain, cancer pain etc. Prof. MadhupRastogi, HOD Radiation Oncology informed that most cancer patients suffer from severe pain and MIPSIs of Pain Medicine can help. Prof. Vikram Singh, HOD General Medicine, also showed worry about increasing incident of elderly population with chronic pain, DrShallyMahajan, HOD Dental Sciences, discussed the need of colloaboration between specialities for treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia and TMJ Syndromes; Prof Vinit Kumar, HOD Orthopedics discussed the advanced management of various low back pain causes. DrAmiteshPathak, Pain Physician, Integral University, Lucknow informed that the number of young patients with back pian is increasing in society due to sedentary lifestyle.
Prof BhuwanTiwari, HOD Cardiology and I/C Media Cell, informed that more facilities are being added to Pain Medicine Services at Dr RMLIMS Lucknow.

More than 100 Doctors form different specialties joined from all medical institutes of Lucknow and around and deepened their understanding alongwith enhancing their ability to manage chronic pain syndromes effectively .
