Lucknow desk (R L Pandey).Clubfoot disease, also known as congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV), is a common congenital deformity in India, affecting about 1-2 in every 1,000 childbirths . It's characterized by an inward and downward twisting of the foot, which can affect one or both feet.
Despite its prevalence, many cases of clubfoot in India remain untreated or undertreated, especially in rural areas. Only about 20-25% of children born with clubfoot in urban areas receive proper care and treatment.
Dr Suresh Chand, Associate Professor Paediatric Orthopaedics, KGMU Lucknow was one of the few doctors from India , who were specially trained to deliver a course developed by the University of Oxford and accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons (England). This 5-day Training the Trainer (TTT) was unique opportunity brought to us by CURE India and Global Clubfoot Initiative (GCI). The training was done at Safdarjung Hospital Delhi by trainers from UK, US and Philippines.
This accredited course will equip us to become trainers for Clubfoot courses in India and globally.
