Draw Inspiration from History to Take Society Forward: CM Yogi
Lucknow, December Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that society can move forward only by drawing inspiration from the glorious moments of history and by correcting its mistakes in a timely manner. Addressing students, teachers, and parents at the closing ceremony of the 134th Annual Sports Competition at Colvin Taluqdars College, the Chief Minister said,
It is necessary to take inspiration from the glorious moments of history to move society forward. Mistakes of history must be rectified at the right time. Only then does society progress. Errors should be corrected, and good deeds must become a source of inspiration for life.”
CM Yogi said that India has preserved its traditions through festivals and cultural celebrations.Politics continued to function in the country, but kings, princes, and social leaders never interfered in traditions. Instead, they contributed to preserving and promoting our culture,” he added.
Discipline and Unity Shape Character
Referring to the march past during the sports competition, CM Yogi praised the discipline and unity displayed by the students.Watching the discipline, collective spirit, and dedication of the students felt like witnessing the soldiers of the Azad Hind Fauj answering Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s call for the nation’s freedom,” he said.
He stated that such activities instill patriotism, discipline, self-confidence, and leadership qualities among students. On the occasion, the Chief Minister paid tribute to Kunwar Anand Singh, former President of the institution, recalling his contributions to the college’s development.
Educational Institutions Unite Society
CM Yogi emphasized that while divisive elements may exist in society, educational institutions play the most vital role in uniting people.
He noted that when Colvin Taluqdars College was founded in 1889, the country was going through challenging times.
He recalled how Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s “Vande Mataram”, composed after the First War of Independence in 1857, became a timeless symbol of freedom. When Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore set it to music at the Congress session in 1896, it became the mantra of India’s freedom movement,” he said.
Preserving India’s Glorious Heritage
The Chief Minister lauded the college’s initiative of naming student houses after historical and mythological centres such as Ajanta, Nalanda, Taxila, Sanchi, and Ujjain.
He said these names reflect India’s ancient intellectual and cultural legacy.Taxila was among the world’s oldest universities, laying foundations of science, Ayurveda, and philosophy over 2,500 years ago. Nalanda symbolized knowledge, Ujjain excelled in astronomy and justice under Maharaja Vikramaditya, and Ajanta and Sanchi represent architectural brilliance. Linking student development with these values is commendable,” he said.
