Jaunpur: Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University has been awarded the prestigious Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (DST-PURSE) grant by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. This grant is provided for research in the energy sector. This year, it is the only university in the state to receive this grant. Veer Bahadur Singh University, Jaunpur, is a major collaborator of the Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh, with several projects in this area currently underway. This achievement has created a festive atmosphere at the university ahead of Diwali, marking an important milestone that will provide new direction to scientific research.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vandana Singh described this achievement as a step towards elevating the university’s reputation and establishing Uttar Pradesh as a leader in science and innovation. She said the selection of Purvanchal University for the DST-PURSE project demonstrates its commitment to academic excellence and the promotion of knowledge. This accomplishment is a matter of pride for not only the university but also the entire state. The research will encompass crucial areas like solar energy, hydrogen energy, and advanced battery technology, which will help address contemporary challenges in sustainable energy.

She also mentioned that in past years, central universities in the state, including Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, and Allahabad University, have been awarded this special honor.

In March 2024, around 100 universities across India submitted project proposals to the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Following a comprehensive evaluation, in August 2024, Prof. Vandana Singh, along with Dr. Dhirendra Chaudhary, Dr. Kajal Dey, and Prof. Giridhar Mishra, was invited to present the project proposal before the PURSE Project Management Board at the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi.

Upon receiving the grant notification, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vandana Singh congratulated Project Coordinator Dr. Dhirendra K. Chaudhary, Deputy Coordinator Dr. Kajal Dey, the Project Implementation Committee, and all the faculty members of the university. On the occasion of receiving the official approval letter, prominent university figures were present, including Registrar Mahendra Kumar, Finance Officer Sanjay Kumar, Controller of Examinations Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh, Prof. Manas Pandey, Prof. Ajay Dwivedi, Prof. Avinash Pathardikar, Prof. Manoj Mishra, Prof. Rajesh Singh, Prof. Sandeep Singh, Prof. Ashok Srivastava, Prof. Rajnish Bhaskar, Prof. Pramod Yadav, Prof. Murad Ali, Prof. Raj Kumar, Prof. Mithilesh Singh, Prof. Ravi Prakash, Dr. Vikrant Bhateja, Dr. Pramod Kumar, Dr. Sanjeev Gangwar, Dr. Sujeet Chaurasia, Dr. Neeraj Awasthi, Deputy Registrar Amritlal, Babita Singh, and Ajit Pratap Singh.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar Gangwar, Research Head and Joint Director of the Council of Science and Technology, Uttar Pradesh, conveyed heartfelt congratulations to the research scientists of Veer Bahadur Singh University, Jaunpur, on their achievement. He stated that this project will open vast new research opportunities for students in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Students will no longer have to leave the region to engage in world-class research. Following Banaras Hindu University and Allahabad University, Jaunpur is emerging as a new educational hub in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
