Earth Day 2026: SUEZ and IWAI Launch Mega Plantation Drive at Lucknow’s Bharwara STP

Lucknow, April 22, 2026: In a significant move towards urban sustainability, SUEZ—the lead agency under the ‘One City, One Operator’ framework—partnered with the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) to host a large-scale tree plantation event at the 345 MLD Bharwara Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).

The initiative, organized to commemorate World Earth Day, saw the planting of diverse saplings across the facility’s premises, reinforcing the collective commitment to ecological restoration.

Restoring the Green Balance

World Earth Day is celebrated globally every April 22nd to ignite conversations and actions around environmental safety. This year, the focus remained on the critical pillars of conservation: eradicating single-use plastics and expanding the green canopy. Guided by these principles, SUEZ utilized the Bharwara STP—one of Asia's largest treatment facilities—as a hub for environmental advocacy.

SUEZ’s mission in Lucknow goes beyond mere infrastructure management; the organization consistently works to transform industrial spaces like the Bharwara complex into eco-friendly green zones through periodic afforestation programs.

A Vision for Sustainable Operations

Sharing his thoughts on the initiative, Rajesh Mathpal, Project Director at SUEZ, emphasized the importance of corporate environmental responsibilityEarth Day is a powerful reminder that our duty to the planet is ongoing. At SUEZ, we believe that sustainable development and operational excellence must go hand-in-hand. Small, localized actions like planting a tree today are the foundation for a healthier climate tomorrow. Our goal is to ensure that while we manage the city's water and sanitation, we also act as proactive guardians of its natural resources.”

A Call to Action for the Future

The event concluded with a powerful message: environmental preservation is a shared journey. By encouraging every citizen to take even a single step—whether by reducing waste or planting a tree—the campaign aims to secure a resilient and cleaner future for the next generation.
