Former Pro Vice Chancellor of Integral University, Prof. Syed Muzaffar Iqbal, Passes Away

Lucknow: Prof. Syed Muzaffar Iqbal, former Pro Vice Chancellor of Integral University and a highly respected academic figure, passed away on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at his residence in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. He was 87. Known for his profound scholarship and remarkable leadership in the field of professional education, Prof. Iqbal leaves behind an enduring legacy.
Associated with Integral University from 1996 to 2016, Prof. Iqbal held several key positions, including Pro Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Consultant. His forward-looking vision, strong academic insight and unwavering dedication significantly influenced the university’s development, shaping both its administrative and academic structure.
Integral University held a condolence meeting to honour his contributions, where prayers were offered for the departed soul. Chancellor Prof. Syed Waseem Akhtar expressed deep sorrow over the loss, recalling Prof. Iqbal’s unmatched service and invaluable role in strengthening the institution. He remarked that Prof. Iqbal’s demise leaves behind a void that will be extremely difficult to fill.

Prof. Muzaffar Iqbal completed his B.Tech from Aligarh Muslim University in 1962, followed by an M.Tech from IIT Kanpur in 1978. He served the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam with exemplary distinction and retired as Chief Engineer. During his service, he played a crucial role in several national projects, including the Ganga–Yamuna Action Plan.
Even after retirement, Prof. Iqbal remained actively associated with Integral University. His strategic vision, research-focused recommendations, and dedicated guidance made a significant impact on the university’s academic progress, administrative planning, and institutional expansion.
Prof. Iqbal was the younger brother of the late Justice Syed Sagheer Ahmad, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India. He is survived by his wife and son, Dr. Javed Iqbal, who resides in the United States. May the Almighty grant him eternal peace and give strength and patience to the bereaved family.
