New Delhi  December  2025  :  Indian Railways significantly expanded its special train operations in 2025 to ensure safe, smooth, and comfortable travel for passengers during major festivals and peak travel seasons. More than 43,000 special train trips were operated throughout the year, reflecting improved planning, enhanced coordination, and a strong focus on passenger convenience.

Massive Arrangements for Maha Kumbh and Festivals

One of the largest special train operations was undertaken during Maha Kumbh 2025, where Indian Railways ran 17,340 special train trips between 13 January and 28 February 2025. These services played a crucial role in facilitating the movement of millions of pilgrims from different parts of the country.

For Holi 2025, celebrated between 1 March and 22 March, a total of 1,144 special train trips were operated. This number was nearly double compared to Holi 2024, helping ease congestion and ensure better availability for festive travelers.

Summer and Chhath Puja Travel Support

To manage the heavy rush during the summer vacation period, Indian Railways operated 12,417 Summer Special trains from 1 April to 30 June 2025, maintaining uninterrupted connectivity during peak months.

Special arrangements for Chhath Puja 2025 were further strengthened with 12,383 special train trips running between 1 October and 30 November 2025, marking a significant rise over the previous year and ensuring smoother travel for devotees.

Strong Foundation Built in 2024

The expanded operations in 2025 were built on the strong groundwork laid in 2024. During the Aastha Special services held from 30 January to 11 March 2024, Indian Railways operated 326 special circular train trips to assist pilgrims.

For Holi 2024, a total of 604 special trains were introduced between 12 March and 2 April. The Summer season of 2024 saw 12,919 special train trips, while Chhath Puja 2024 arrangements included 7,990 special trains between 1 October and 31 December 2024.

Commitment to Passenger Convenience

The substantial increase in special train services during 2025 highlights Indian Railways’ continued commitment to efficient crowd management, passenger safety, and reliable transportation during periods of high demand. These efforts have played a key role in ensuring seamless travel experiences across the country during major religious events and holiday seasons.
