Lucknow desk (R L Pandey).The Legal Aid Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow, celebrated International Human Rights Day with a special lecture on the theme "Judicial Activism and the Protection of Human Rights" on 10th December 2024. The event was adorned by the presence of the esteemed Chief Guest, Prof.(Dr.) Preeti Misra, Dean, School of Legal Studies at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow. The Lecture was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) B.D. Singh, Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Singh, Director, Dr. Abhishek Kumar Tiwari, Chairperson, Legal Aid Centre and Dr. Bhawna Singh,Co- Chairperson, Legal Aid Centre.
The lecture aimed to shed light on the pivotal role of judicial activism in advancing human rights, particularly in ensuring justice for marginalized and underprivileged communities.
Prof. (Dr.)Preeti Misra shared her views on the theme and emphasized the dynamic nature of judicial activism as a tool to bridge gaps in legislation and protect fundamental rights. She highlighted examples of how judicial interventions can significantly impact society and ensure justice & equality.
The event also included an interactive session where students and faculty members engaged in thought-provoking discussions on human rights issues, recent judgments, and the evolving role of the judiciary in safeguarding civil liberties.
The lecture concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Bhawna Singh, Co-Chairpeson, Legal Aid Centre. She thanked Prof.(Dr.) Preeti Misra for her valuable insights on this ocassion and commended all attendees for their active participation.
