In his keynote address, Dr. D.K. Upreti, former scientist, CSIR-NBRI & President of Indian Lichenological Society (ILS) informed about the lichen diversity in India and its various ongoing research. Dr. Upreti said in recent years, there has been a great increase in new research in the field of lichen taxonomy and diversity, due to which the total number of lichen species found in India has increased significantly, which shows that not only new species have been discovered in India, but also comprehensive information of lichen diversity of many less explored areas has been collected, which will be very helpful for future research.
In another keynote address Prof. PL Uniyal, Delhi University discussed about the bryophyte plants, an important group of non-flowery plants, and gave information about the importance of these plants in the environment and the environmental studies done on these plants at various places in the country. Being sensitive to environmental pollution, Prof. Uniyal also discussed the important role of these plants in understanding the changes taking place in the environment due to climate change.
Dr. Gaurav Mishra, Scientist & Organizing Secretary of the conference informed that a total of 40 oral presentations on vast areas of cryptogamic research and six invited talks by subject experts were organized during the day. The conference will conclude on 11 December 2024 with valedictory function.
