Max Hospital Lucknow Highlights Importance of Golden Hour in Trauma Care, Showcases Complex Facial Reconstruction Cases
Lucknow, October 29, 2026: Emphasising the importance of timely medical intervention in preventing long-term complications and disabilities after traumatic injuries, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, organised an awareness session following World Trauma Day. The session focused on the significance of the Golden Hour—the critical initial period after an injury when prompt assessment, accurate diagnosis and coordinated treatment can play a decisive role in managing life-threatening conditions.
The session brought together specialists from Neurosurgery, Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, and Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Manu Rastogi, Senior Director, Neurosurgery; Dr. Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi, Director, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery; Dr. Divyanshu Dutt Dwivedi, Associate Director, Orthopaedics; and Dr. Saurabh Kumar Singh, Consultant and In-charge, Emergency Medicine, discussed the importance of identifying serious injuries, ensuring a rapid ambulance response and initiating timely treatment through coordinated multidisciplinary care.
During the session, the hospital highlighted the case of 12-year-old Sarthak Pandey, who suffered severe facial injuries in a bicycle accident. The accident resulted in fractures at three separate points in his mandible (lower jaw), along with facial deformity. He was brought to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, where Dr. Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi performed a complex facial reconstruction procedure to realign and stabilise the fractured jaw. According to the hospital, the surgery helped restore the child's facial structure, and he returned to normal activities following treatment and recovery.
Another challenging case involved 35-year-old Siddhartha Singh, who sustained extensive facial injuries in an accident, leaving several facial bones shattered into multiple fragments. After seeking treatment at various hospitals, he reached Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow. Dr. Tulsi and his team undertook a complex facial reconstruction procedure, carefully reassembling and stabilising the fractured bone fragments with mini titanium plates. Damaged teeth were also replaced to restore his bite. The treatment helped recover his facial structure and function.
Speaking about the cases, Dr. Tulsi said, “Complex facial injuries, particularly those involving multiple fractures, require precise surgical planning and reconstruction to restore both facial structure and essential functions such as chewing and jaw movement. In children, the approach is even more critical, as treatment must account for facial growth and long-term functional outcomes. These cases highlight the importance of timely intervention and specialised maxillofacial expertise in managing severe trauma. With the right surgical approach, it is possible to restore facial form and function and help patients return to their normal lives.”
The cases highlighted the complexities involved in treating severe facial trauma, where injuries can affect not only a person's appearance but also essential functions such as chewing and jaw movement. Timely intervention and specialised maxillofacial expertise are particularly important in cases involving multiple fractures that require precise reconstruction and stabilisation.
Highlighting the risks associated with head and brain injuries, Dr. Manu Rastogi, Senior Director, Neurosurgery, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, said, “In head injuries, the severity of the condition may not always be immediately apparent. Internal bleeding, brain swelling, or associated spinal injuries can deteriorate rapidly and require urgent intervention. Early assessment and timely treatment at a facility equipped to provide comprehensive trauma care can help prevent complications and improve the chances of recovery.”
Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, has a 24x7 Emergency and Trauma Centre supported by a multidisciplinary team of emergency physicians, neurosurgeons, orthopaedic and maxillofacial surgeons, critical care specialists and anaesthesiologists. The hospital is also equipped with advanced diagnostic facilities, intensive care units, emergency operation theatres and a dedicated neuro-trauma intensive care facility under its Heart & Neuro Command Centre.
