Medanta Lucknow Achieves Landmark with 509 Robotic Surgeries in a Year
Medanta Lucknow has created a new benchmark in advanced healthcare by successfully completing 509 robotic surgeries within a year, the highest performed by any private hospital in India during this period. This remarkable milestone reflects the hospital’s commitment to innovation, cutting-edge technology, and excellence in patient care.
The achievement spans multiple specialties, showcasing the collaborative effort of different departments: Gynecology (219 surgeries), Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery (137), Urology (109), Cardiac (23), and 21 surgeries from other specialties.
A press conference was organized on Tuesday to highlight this success, attended by senior doctors and department heads including Medical Director & Director of Urology & Kidney Transplant Dr. Rakesh Kapoor, Dr. Aneesh Srivastava, Dr. Manmeet Singh, Director of Gynecology & Obstetrics Dr. Neelam Vinay, Director of GI Surgery Dr. Anand Prakash, Dr. Sandeep Verma, Director of Cancer Care Endocrine & Breast Surgery Dr. Amit Agrawal, Dr. Roma Pradhan, Director of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery Dr. Gauranga Majumdar, Senior Consultant Liver Transplant Dr. Vivek Gupta, Consultant Pediatric Surgery & Urology Dr. Anvesha Chakravarty, and Dr. Shyamendra Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rakesh Kapoor said:Completing 509 robotic surgeries is a proud moment for us and reflects our dedication to delivering precision-driven, minimally invasive, and patient-friendly healthcare. With world-class robotic systems and a highly skilled team, we are ensuring safer procedures, quicker recovery, and better treatment outcomes for patients.”
Why Robotic Surgery is Transforming Healthcare
-
Gynecology: The department performed the highest number of surgeries. Robotic procedures are proving highly beneficial for women with conditions such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, heavy bleeding (menorrhagia), adnexal diseases, and gynecological cancers. The advanced technology ensures precision, reduces complications, and allows faster recovery.
-
Urology: Robotic techniques are bringing hope to patients with prostate cancer, kidney cancer, and kidney transplant needs. Unlike conventional surgery, robotic systems allow highly precise suturing, minimize risks like urinary leakage, and help preserve kidney function in tumor cases.
-
Gastrointestinal Surgery: From stomach and esophageal cancer to hiatal hernia, pancreatic cancer, liver/biliary cancer, intestinal tumors, and gallbladder removal, robotic surgery is revolutionizing abdominal procedures. Its ability to perform complex operations with accuracy is improving cancer and tumor treatment outcomes significantly.
-
Cardiac Surgery: India conducts nearly 2–2.5 lakh bypass surgeries annually. Robotic technology is emerging as a game-changer, offering a safer alternative to open-heart surgery. It minimizes trauma, speeds up recovery, and even reduces the physical strain on doctors, enabling them to perform more procedures efficiently.
-
Other Specialties: Robotic techniques are increasingly being used in pediatric surgeries, organ transplants, and complex tumor removals, expanding their role across multiple medical disciplines.
With this milestone, Medanta Lucknow has reinforced its position as a leader in advanced robotic healthcare, making complex surgeries safer, more precise, and recovery-driven for patients across India.
