Lucknow desk (R L Pandey).The Department of Zoology, University of Lucknow, organized a special session under the Mission Shakti program today, focusing on empowering women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and addressing key issues related to their advancement with the inspiration of honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai.

The event was graced by Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manuka Khanna, who served as the Chief Guest. In her address, she highlighted the pivotal role of such initiatives in fostering inclusivity and promoting gender equity in education and research.

Dr. Jyoti Bajpayi Dikshit delivered an insightful lecture on "Role of Genetic Counselling", emphasizing its significance in modern healthcare and its potential to address hereditary diseases. Dr. Pauline Kavali spoke on "Women in STEM", shedding light on the challenges faced by women in science and offering actionable solutions to bridge the gender gap in the field.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. M. Serajuddin, Head of the Department of Zoology, who set the tone for an engaging and thought-provoking session. Dr. Nidhi Mishra, the Program Coordinator, presented a compelling documentary titled "Women in STEM: Issues, Challenges, and Solutions", which resonated deeply with the audience.

Prof. Monisha Banerjee and Prof. Amita Kanaujiya introduced the speakers, sharing their illustrious achievements and contributions to the field. Dr. Hadiya Hussain skillfully compered the program, ensuring its smooth flow.

Dr. Manini Srivastava, the nodal officer of Mission Shakti, was also present and commended the department for organizing such a meaningful event. Several esteemed faculty members, including Prof. Shailie Malik, Prof. Geetanjali Mishra, Dr. Kalpana Singh, Dr. Amit Tripathi, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Madhu Gupta, Dr. Akansha Sharma, Dr. Paramjeet Singh, Dr. Ashutosh Ranjan, Dr. Tripti Yadav, and Dr. Nitish Rai, were in attendance.

The program witnessed an overwhelming response from students, who participated in large numbers, reflecting their enthusiasm and keen interest in the themes discussed.
