NSS CAMP Day 6: A Celebration of Sustainability and Social Responsibility
 
Lucknow desk (R L Pandey).The sixth day of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Camp at the University of Lucknow was marked by a series of engaging activities that highlighted sustainability, social responsibility, and youth empowerment. The three NSS units—Commerce, Sociology, and Anthropology—under the supervision of their respective Program Officers, Professor Karuna Shankar Kannojia, Professor Pratibha Raj, and Professor Poonam Tripathi, led the day's events with great enthusiasm and dedication.

The day's activities commenced with a sustainable cooking session, where NSS volunteers prepared traditional meals—Bati Chokha and Dal Chawal—using eco-friendly methods and utensils. Emphasizing sustainability, the meal was served in earthen pots and on banana leaves, reinforcing the importance of environmental consciousness.

Following the meal preparation, the NSS volunteers and Program Officers warmly welcomed the esteemed Chief Guest, Honourable Vice Chancellor of the University of Lucknow, Professor Alok Kumar Rai. He was accompanied by distinguished guests, including Professor V.K. Sharma (DSW), Professor Keya Pandey (Honorary Librarian), Professor Anup Singh (Chief Provost), and Professor Manoj Sharma (Provost, Balrampur Hall).

The welcome address was delivered by Professor Karuna Shankar Kannojia, setting the stage for the day’s proceedings. The Chief Guest was then felicitated with a bouquet presented by Dr. Pratibha Raj and Dr. Poonam Tripathi. To promote environmental awareness, the Vice Chancellor planted an Ashok sapling, symbolizing the university’s commitment to sustainability.

The event continued with an inspection of posters and crafts created by NSS volunteers. The poster exhibition focused on the theme of Digital Literacy, while the craft section showcased innovative upcycling of clothes and redundant objects, transforming them into aesthetically appealing creations using colors and fabric paints.

A short yet impactful skit on "Swachh Bharat" (Clean India) was then presented by NSS volunteers, reinforcing the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in society. The highlight of the event was the certificate distribution ceremony, where the Vice Chancellor recognized and awarded NSS volunteers for their commendable efforts throughout the camp.

In his appreciation speech,Honorable Vice-chancellor University of Lucknow Professor Alok Kumar Rai emphasized the multidimensional development of youth, their sensitization towards social issues, and the role of NSS in personal and professional growth. Following this, the Vice Chancellor was felicitated by the Program Officers with a token of appreciation.

Dr. Pratibha Raj concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the esteemed guests, program officers, and NSS volunteers for their dedication and active participation. She highlighted the core values of NSS, the significance of sustainability, and the impact of community service.

The event concluded with a sustainable lunch, where the same eco-friendly serving methods were followed. Post-lunch, the volunteers and Program Officers ensured the cleanliness of the camp area, marking the successful completion of Day 6 with the NSS Clap, a tradition symbolizing teamwork and accomplishment.

The NSS Camp at the University of Lucknow continues to set an example of youth-led community service, reinforcing the values of sustainability, education, and civic responsibility.
