Uttar Pradesh desk Lucknow(R L Pandey)The week-long unique Free Health check-up camp under the Phenome India-CSIR Health Cohort Knowledgebase (PI-CHeCK) organized by CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute Lucknow from 4th-10th April, 2024 concluded yesterday.

The camp was organized to generate health awareness and facilitate early disease detection among CSIR-CDRI employees and pensioners along with their spouses. The camp aimed to identify India-specific risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases which have been identified as major health issues among the Indian population in recent years.

The PI-CHeCK is 5-yr program and is the brainchild of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), one of the largest research and development organizations of India under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. Of India with a network of 37 laboratories situated across the whole country. This pioneering initiative is dedicated to fostering holistic health check-ups within the CSIR family. CSIR-IGIB, New Delhi is the nodal lab for the PI-CHeCK health check-up camp. The camp at CSIR-CDRI was inaugurated by the Director of CSIR-CDRI Dr Radha Rangarajan on 4th April, 2024 and was facilitated by a team of healthcare professionals and volunteers. The CSIR-CDRI team was led by Dr. Amit Lahiri, Dr. Mrigank Srivastava and Dr. Vivek Bhosale, while the CSIR-IGIB team was led by Dr. Sudhir Rohilla. From CDRI, Dr. Shail Singh and Mr. Umesh Kumar played a crucial role in the project.

The key objective of the PI-CHeCK initiative is to ensure “Swasthya Bharat Viksit Bharat” through health and wellness check. Director CSIR-CDRI said that “PI-CHeCK 
is not just a health check-up camp, it's a pioneering step towards understanding the unique health landscape of our nation. By gathering diverse data through PI-CHeCK, CSIR aspires to pave the way for tailored healthcare solutions and contribute significantly to the advancement of the medical knowledge.”

The camp at CSIR-CDRI witnessed the enthusiastic participation of more than 310 Scientists, staff, pensioners, and their spouses and included several tests like Blood test, Blood pressure monitoring, Blood sugar level testing, monitoring of blood Cholesterol level, Body mass index (BMI), ECG, Liver Fibroscan, Spirometry and Oscillometry for lungs etc.  Once completed across all CSIR labs, this health cohort study will generate long-term comprehensive data regarding the lifestyle and dietary habits of more than 10,000 individuals which will serve as the guiding light for clinicians to draw correlations about the health of Indians in the post-COVID era. Many researcher scholars and students served as volunteers for the camp.
