The 58th National Conference of the Indian College of Allergy, Asthma and immunology (ICAAICON) began on Friday at Patel Chest Institute, Delhi, and will continue from December 20 to 22.
At the National Conference on Allergy and Asthma, Dr. Surya Kant, Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, delivered a special lecture on the role of yoga in managing respiratory diseases.

Dr. Surya Kant explained that combining yoga, pranayama, and meditation with inhalers provides significant relief in respiratory diseases, improves work capacity, prevents asthma attacks, and enhances the quality of life. Additionally, it helps reduce the dosage of inhalers and improves lung function. He emphasized that yoga is a complementary therapy for respiratory illnesses but not a replacement for inhalers. Patients with respiratory diseases can practice yoga along with inhalers under the guidance of their doctors to stay completely healthy and perform all their daily activities.

Dr. Surya Kant further highlighted that the first-ever PhD and postdoctoral fellowship on the effects of yoga and pranayama in asthma were completed under his supervision in KGMU's Respiratory Medicine Department. He mentioned that 25 research papers have been published on this subject, marking a world record for the highest number of research papers published on this topic by a single physician.
