RMLIMS REACHES A SIGNIFICANT LANDMARK WITH 1000 MINIMAL INVASIVE SURGERIES FOR UROLOGICAL CANCERS
These Surgeries were successfully performed for the treatment of Kidney Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Bladder Cancer, Adrenal and Urothelial Cancers. Prof. Ishwar Ram Dhayal, Head of department, Urology said that the department has successfully completed 175 cases each of Radical Prostatectomy and Partial nephrectomy which are considered to be complex in nature. Along with this the department has successfully treated 100 patients each of Bladder and adrenal cancers in a minimally invasive manner with excellent outcomes and at affordable costs.
Stating about the benefits of Minimal Invasive or keyhole surgeries for patients, Dr Alok Srivastava, Professor, of Urology said “The advantages of keyhole surgery over traditional methods are evident in the post-operation experiences of patients. Following a complete prostatectomy, individuals undergoing robotic surgery benefit from a more consistent urination pattern, eliminating the discomfort of bladder control, they also can have a normal penile erection as the delicate nerves can be effectively preserved. In the case of kidney cancers keyhole surgery has also displayed exceptional outcomes. In cases of early-stage kidney cancer, the precision of keyhole surgery allows for the targeted removal of tumors while preserving the majority of the kidney.”
Dr Sanjeet, Additional Professor further added, patients undergoing traditional open surgery often require more extended periods of rest before they can resume their work activities. In contrast, those undergoing minimal invasive surgery experience quicker recovery times, enabling them to return to work sooner.
Prof. CM Singh, Director, RMLIMS stated that once the institute acquires a state-of-the-art Robotic system these surgeries will be done with greater precision, dexterity, and visualization during surgeries, ultimately leading to improved clinical outcomes.Dr. Ishwar Ram Dhayal further added “Urological cancers are on the rise and prostate cancer is one of the most common in India. Tumors of the genitourinary system are also one of the most common tumors encountered in clinical practice, especially in the Indian subcontinent. Increased screening programs, improved cancer awareness in the general population, and with the advent of newer imaging modalities; the cancers of the Genito-urinary system are being detected at early stages”.
