Lucknow: Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the Indian Armed Forces, the State Bank of India (SBI), Lucknow Circle, handed over a personal accidental insurance claim of ₹1 crore to the family of a martyred soldier.

The insurance claim was presented to Durga Devi Gurung, the wife of the late Hom Bahadur Gurung, a brave soldier who attained martyrdom on August 16, 2025, while serving with the distinguished Gorkha Rifles. The late soldier was a native of Nepal.

Honoring the Sacrifice

The cheque handover took place at SBI’s AMC Cantt. Branch, Lucknow. The claim was facilitated under the SBI Defence Salary Package (DSP), which provides comprehensive financial security and insurance benefits to military personnel.

The cheque was officially presented by Awantika Singh Mishra, Regional Manager (SBI), and Col Devesh Jayant Joshi. The ceremony was attended by Deepti Dwivedi, AGM (Deposit & VAS, SBI), alongside several other senior bank officials and military officers.

Simplified Cross-Border Transactions

Recognizing the logistical challenges faced by the families of soldiers from Nepal, SBI has introduced a specialized facility for this case. The bank has streamlined the process to ensure that cheques issued in Lucknow can be cleared and deposited at any SBI branch in Nepal. This move aims to provide hassle-free international transactions and immediate financial support to the bereaved family.

SBI’s Commitment to the Armed Forces

The prompt settlement of this high-value insurance claim highlights the efficiency and reliability of SBI's Defence Salary Package. An SBI spokesperson stated that the bank remains dedicated to providing the best-in-class financial services to those who serve the nation, ensuring that their families are cared for in times of crisis.
