Lucknow desk ( R L Pandey). The Department of Chemistry in collaboration with Thieme organized a Science of Synthesis Orientation Workshop on the theme Common Pitfalls on Scientific Writing on October 18, 2024. Prof. Anil Mishra Head of the department welcomed the guests and apprised the audience of importance of scientific writing skills for students and researchers
. He mentioned that Scientific writing is an essential part of every researcher’s journey. However, many scientists and students often feel challenged by the task of drafting high-quality manuscripts. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Rohit Bhatia, Acquisition Editor for Chemistry Journal at Thieme Group. Prof. V. K. Sharma presented mementos to Dr. Rohit Bhatia and Mr. Vineet Sharma. Thereafter Dr. Priyanka Pandey introduced the speaker to the audience.
Dr. Bhatia in his talk focussed on how scientific writing is a craft that requires consistent practice and a precise approach, rather than creative flair. He highlighted the most common mistakes authors make and how these can be avoided to significantly improve the quality of manuscripts submitted for peer-reviewed journals. This knowledge is vital for anyone aspiring to publish impactful research, and he shared effective strategies for refining writing techniques.
In addition to the talk on scientific writing, Dr. Bhatia included a specialized session on Science of Synthesis, a leading organic chemistry database. This session provided practical training to students and researchers on how to effectively use the database to streamline their research processes. The participants also learnt how to save time and resources by planning their experiments more efficiently with the help of this advanced tool.
Dr. Priyanka Chaudhary proposed the vote of thanks. The event was coordinated by Dr. Neeraj Kumar Mishra and Dr. Vinay Kumar Singh. The program was attended faculty members and research scholars of the department.
