Study Hall’s 13th SHMUN: Students Tackle Global Crises Under the Theme 'Through Difficulties to Honors

Lucknow, October , 2025.
Study Hall School successfully hosted the 13th edition of its Model United Nations Conference (SHMUN) on October 11 and 12, 2025. The two-day conference was a massive success, engaging over 120 student delegates from eight participating schools, including La Martiniere Girls College, Vibgyor, CMS Gomti Nagar, and several independent delegates. This year, the conference was guided by the inspiring Latin theme: Per Angusta Ad Augusta—meaning "Through Difficulties to Honors."
A Platform for Global Diplomacy
SHMUN simulates the operational environment of the United Nations, providing students with a hands-on experience in global diplomacy. Delegates assumed the roles of country representatives, tasked with researching complex topics, drafting resolutions, and ultimately negotiating consensus.
The conference featured intense debates across five committees designed to address pressing global issues:
-
The Lok Sabha
-
The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
-
The UN Security Council (UNSC)
-
Two Joint Crisis Committees
-
The International Press Committee
Students were required to give formal speeches, form strategic alliances, and debate solutions while strictly adhering to the official Rules of Procedure.

Fostering Leadership and Critical Thinking
The SHMUN experience is designed to build essential 21st-century skills among young leaders. Jyotirmay, the Study Hall student who served as the head of this year’s SHMUN, reflected on the experience. "SHMUN gives us the crucial chance to truly understand real-world issues and learn how countries work together to solve them," he said. "Leading this conference has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding."
Dr. Urvashi Sahni, Founder and CEO of SHEF, emphasized the core mission. She stated that SHMUN "is a vital space where young minds develop the skills, confidence, and empathy needed to become thoughtful leaders. Initiatives like these reflect SHEF’s commitment to nurturing students who engage with the world critically and responsibly.”

Principal Meenakshi Bahadur expressed pride in the students’ engagement. "We are proud to see our students take on leadership roles and delve deeply into global issues," she added. "SHMUN is a proven platform that successfully builds critical thinking and teamwork among our students."
