the urology surgical team, led by Dr. Apul Goel, Dr. Manoj Yadav, and Dr. Avneet Gupta, proceeded with the surgery

Initially diagnosed with carcinoma testis, he had undergone surgery and chemotherapy, which typically yield positive outcomes. However, in a rare scenario, the cancer metastasize, leading to the growth of two massive tumors—one on the left side measuring 25 cm and the other on the right side, 20 cm in diameter. These tumors, located in the retroperitoneal space, were dangerously close to major blood vessels and other vital abdominal organs, including the intestines.
The tumors caused severe abdominal distension, pain, and vomiting, leaving the patient unable to eat. His condition worsened rapidly, and he became extremely weak, prompting him to seek help from several private and government hospitals. He was eventually admitted to Urology department of KGMU, Lucknow, where specialists agreed to take on the complex case.
His condition was critical, as the tumors were not only large but were also pressing against the body’s largest blood vessels, creating a significant risk of life-threatening bleeding during surgery. Despite the grave risks, the urology surgical team, led by Dr. Apul Goel, Dr. Manoj Yadav, and Dr. Avneet Gupta, proceeded with the surgery.
The operation, which lasted six hours, was a delicate and highly challenging procedure due to the proximity of the tumors to major blood vessels and other important abdominal organs. Furthermore, Patient’s weakened state due to cancer made the surgery even more difficult. However, with meticulous precision and expertise, the surgical team successfully removed both tumors without any complications.
The outcome was nothing short of miraculous. Just seven days after the surgery, he was discharged from the hospital in good general health, able to eat a full diet once again. His recovery has been remarkable, and he continues to make progress each day.
This case highlights the expertise and dedication of the surgical team at KGMU and the advanced capabilities of the hospital in handling such complex and rare medical situations. Despite the high risks involved, this successful surgery offers hope to other cancer patients facing similar challenges.
Hon'ble VC KGMU Prof Soniya Nityanand congratulated whole team and said that surgery not only saved patinet’s life but also marked a significant achievement in the field of urological surgery, showcasing the skill and determination of the doctors who helped him beat the odds.
