Updates in Clinical and Diagnostic Virology

Lucknow desk (R L Pandey).Viruses are the common and emerging microorganism which remains undiagnosed in most of the patients. There is need of awareness in health system regarding clinical picture and diagnostic algorithm to identify viruses which not only cause unknown fever in community but also are major causes of childhood and ICU infections.
On the occasion of World Health Day and 12th annual newsletter release by department of Microbiology, Dr. RMLIMS, Lucknow, a CME was organised on the theme “Updates in Clinical and Diagnostic Virology”on 07-04-2025. The CME was targeted for the clinicians, microbiologists, community medicine, and residents/ medical students.
Chief Guest for the CME was Prof. C.M Singh, Director, Dr.RMLIMS, Lucknow.
The organizing Chairperson, Prof. Jyotsna Agarwal, HOD, Microbiology. Dr.RMLIMS in her inaugural address explained that the update was targeted on identifying viral infection in terms of its clinical presentations, and Diagnostics as well as focused management.
The eminent key-note speaker of the CME was Prof. Amita Jain, currently Head of Department of Microbiology and Dean Academic at King George Medical University, Lucknow and also Nodal Officer of Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) of King George’s Medical University, Lucknow. She enlightened the audience with her views on Acute Encephalitis Syndrome emphasizing viruses as the main cause of encephalitis. Her lecture was followed by interesting talks on ‘Viral associated tropical fever’, ‘Common viral infections in ICU’ and ‘Viral infection in children’ by renowned speakers, Dr. Atul Garg, Additional Professor, Department of Microbiology, SGPGI, Dr. Sai Saran, Associate Professor, Department of Critical Care, SGPGI and Dr. K.K Yadav, Additional Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Dr. RMLIMS respectively.
On this day awardee of Annual Agar Art Competition among Post graduate student of Microbiology and winners of Poster competition among undergraduate students were also felicitated by token of appreciation from the honorable judges.
The CME concluded with Vote of thanks being delivered by organizing Secretary, Dr Jaya Garg, Additional Professor, Department of Microbiology।
