India vs New Zealand, 2nd Test: Thanks to the lethal bowling of left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner (6 wickets for 106 runs), New Zealand defeated India by 113 runs on the third day of the second Test on Saturday and took an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. This is their first series win on Indian soil. India had got a target of 359 runs but the Indian team was reduced to 245 runs in 60.2 overs.

The Indian team has lost a Test series at home for the first time since 2011-12. After the embarrassing defeat, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said - This is disappointing. It was not as we thought. Credit has to be given to New Zealand. They played better than us. We failed to take advantage of some special opportunities. We failed to respond to those challenges.

Today we are sitting here. I don't think we batted well enough to put runs on the board. Regarding bowling, he said- You have to take 20 wickets to win, yes, but the batsmen have to put runs on the board. Stopping them at close to 250 was a great comeback, but we knew it was going to be challenging.

When they started, their score was 200/3 and it was a great effort for us to come back and bowl them out for 259. Regarding the pitch, he said- It was not a pitch where a lot was happening. We just didn't bat well. If we had been a little closer in the first innings, things would have been a little different.

We want to do well at Wankhede and try to win that Test. It is a collective failure. I am not someone who only blames the batsmen or the bowlers. We will come out with better intentions, better ideas and better methods at Wankhede.

It is worth mentioning that when India last lost the Test series at home, Gambhir was a part of that team and today Gambhir is the head coach of the team. Ashwin and Kohli were also part of the Indian team in that series defeat against England. Santner took a total of 13 wickets in the second Test. He broke the back of the Indian batting by taking seven wickets for 53 runs in the first innings and six wickets for 104 runs in the second innings.
